Lesley Art + Design: New Student
Orientation Booklets
My Role:
Art Director + Designer
The Ask:
Design an informational booklet to be distributed at the College of Art and Design’s new student orientation sessions, containing information on university resources and frequently asked questions about classes and registration.
How it Started:
I thought about when I attended freshman orientation at Lesley University
I reviewed documents handed out at orientation (generic, cater to all Lesley students vs. Art and Design students exclusively)
I viewed examples of booklets designed for previous sessions
My Inspiration:
Bob Ross’ “Happy Accidents“
The state-of-the-art Lunder Arts Center (which was brand-new at the time!)
Art School Messes
The Concept:
Random brushstrokes throughout the booklet to mimic the messy, accidents that happen in art school that sometimes that sometimes end up part of the final project.
Text set in different sizes and directions in a variety of tones to frame conversations between the titles and body copy.
My Process:
I spent a lot of time painting and designing. Then painting some more so the brushstroke texture was more visible.
